What is Hot for This Prom Season 2009

There's nothing shy about this season's color palettes. Vibrant, shimmering, eye-popping colors are what it's all about. This is the year to rock the neon colors and really let your-self be heard with energized jewel tones. Hit the dance floor in colors that shimmer and shine, and all eyes will be on your every move.
Pick out your favorite colors and zap them with a jolt of high energy. Power up to electric blue, jolting yellow and neon green. Mix them up with zappy black and white prints that really make the colors sizzle, or wear them on their own and be the sizzle yourself.
Show off your back and shoulders in a strapless apple red gown in tissue taffeta with a pickup trumpet skirt and back ruching. You can also slip into a slinky lime green dress in silky knit that hugs your curves and captures everyone's attention. Add little details like a flounced mocked train and criss-cross spaghetti straps to really make a personal style statement.
Prints with Pizzazz!
Be a printed princess at the prom with some of the most dazzling designs that the runway has ever seen. Sophisticated silhouettes take on an edge when you pair them up with playful prints. Animal prints show up in colors that nature never intended. Mix it up with oversize black and white geometric prints. Pick bold floral prints or even bolder abstracts in jewel-tone brights and fruit-drenched colors. Not sure how to mix up the patterns? Here are just a few ideas to help spark your creativity.
• Go retro with black and white polka dots in a vintage-styled dress that combines a chic 50's silhouette with a very today scattering of shimmering black paillettes. The tulle underskirt and tea length hem are a retro-inspired look that is totally in this spring.
• Floral prints don't have to be sweet and subtle. Pick a bouquet of flowers that really packs a punch of eye-popping color. Border prints and hand-painted floral accents in bright pink, blue and green have a thoroughly mod, almost psychedelic look that really stands out in a crowd.
The Long and Short of It
Choose the hemline you love this year, because you've got the whole range to pick from. There are so many great styles which are in for prom '09. From teeny minis that show off your legs, to hems that sweep the floor, this year's hottest prom styles are all over the map. Some of the very hottest styles feature a short to long hem that shows off your legs in the front and dances around your heels in the back, while others flirt with your knees or kiss your calves.
If you love your legs, show them off with an adorable baby doll mini with a strapless top and hot new bubble hemline. It's all about being playful, flirty and young, so pick a dress that shows off your modern, sweet side and a whole lot of those glam legs.
Go red-carpet glam with a chic turquoise ombre dress that plays with both color and length. Shimmery gradations of color shift and change with every movement you make. From hem scoops that begin above the ankles in the front to sweeping the floor in the back. This is a look that can be ravishing when paired with strappy, sexy high heel sandals, guaranteed to turn heads and keep you in the spotlight all night long.
The Shape of Things to Come
Get ready for the good news; there are so many styles this prom season you shouldn't have any trouble finding one that's perfect for your silhouette. This year, just about anything goes. Whether you adore classic bouffant ball gowns or prefer swingy, swirly baby doll dresses, you'll be right in style this year. What makes the classic styles fun this year is the way they're paired with unusual details and unexpected colors. With some of the styles that really sizzle, you can pick your color from a sparkling palette that ranges from champagne to chocolate.
Flirt with the classics in a totally modern way. The hottest prom gowns for spring 2009 combine classic and retro styles with unexpected touches. From ruching at a sweetheart neckline to making it even more flattering, a side drape detail that turns a ball gown silhouette into a far more flattering shape for any body type. Make it pop in turquoise shimmer or go earth girl glam in sparkling Fern green, the color choice is completely up to you.

Prom Jewelry Fit for a Princess

You have your prom dress, the perfect shoes and a fabulous bag to tuck under your arm. Your prom night look is almost complete, but no look is complete without some glitz and glam for your ears and your neck. You may not have the resources of a red-carpet diva, and you don't need to rent million dollar gems to look fabulous on prom night either. All you need is a good eye for balance, something to guide you in choosing the perfect jewelry to accent your face and your dress. Just follow this simple guide to help you choose just the right finishing accessories for your prom night look.
• Your prom gown is center stage. Choose jewelry that accents it without upstaging it. That means choosing a few simply fabulous pieces that accent what you're wearing, not compete with what you're wearing. If your gown is glittered with sequins or beads, keep the jewelry simple and close to your body. A choker style necklace and post earrings with a short drop will add a bit of dazzle around your face without detracting from that perfect prom gown.
• If you've chosen a simple style dress, you can always get a bit more daring with the jewelry. Daring doesn't have to mean over the top extravagant. Delicate and feminine is very in for Prom 2009. You can accent a scoop or sweetheart neckline with a pretty beaded necklace that uses crystals and pearls. Add matching earrings to sparkle at your earlobes and peek through your hair.
• Bare shoulders and an uncovered neck call for dazzling jewelry at your ears. If you've chosen an off the shoulder or strapless gown, accent your pretty neck with a pair of crystal chain dangling earrings or some swingy crystal loops that catch the sparkle every time you move your head. When your neck and shoulders are bare, your best choices for neck jewelry are necklaces that hug your throat or fall at the collarbone. Longer ropes or chains will look out of place and elongate your neck a bit too much.
• Keep your jewelry in proportion to your prom gown. If you're wearing a prom princess Cinderella ball gown, go all out with the glam. You can get away with wearing a three-strand collar of pearls or a thick diamond and gemstone choker. If your prom gown silhouette is slender, choose finer chains and smaller gems and crystals.
There are exceptions, of course. An A-line halter gown could be absolutely stunning when worn with a swingy strand of pearls that almost hit your waist because they'll echo the slim line of the dress.
• Don't forget to dress your wrists as well. This year's prom gowns dare to be bare, and that extends to your arms. There is hardly a sleeve to be seen anywhere, so don't forget to accent those pretty wrists with the right jewelry. Chains, charms and crystals are all in this year. Slim chains and beads are the hottest styles, but if you want a bit more sparkle at the wrist, choose multi-strand bracelets rather than thick bands of metal. For a really unusual wrist fashion look, find an artist to stencil a temporary tattoo around your wrist that matches a color or design from your dress.
• It's all about illusion this year. One of the most alluring looks this year is free-floating gems. You don't want to paste them on your skin. Colored crystals and pearls strung on transparent line give the illusion that they were just placed on your skin. This look is there to dazzle the eye without any visible means of suspension. Because there's no bulky chain to distract, you can get away with three or four strands of sparkling gems that curve at your throat. Carry on the illusion to your wrists with crystals strung on transparent and stretchy elasticized string.
• Tiaras are another hot item on this year's prom runway fashions. A gold tiara with crystal and rhinestones really sets off those curls and swirls in your updo, but there are many other choices that may suit your style better. Zigzag wire headbands disappear into your hair making it look as if the crystals and pearls are simply set into your hairstyle. Combs and hairpins embellished with crystals, pearls and fabric flowers can be the perfect finishing touch to your prom night glam look.
Make sure that you try on your jewelry with your dress before the big night to be sure that you get the effect you want. In most cases, less is more. There is an old rule that you might want to remember. When accessorizing a dress for a special occasion, put on all the jewelry and accessories you plan on wearing, then take one piece off and you'll have the perfect look.
